Walks, volcanoes, lakes and valleys
The Auvergne is best discovered slowly. Here is a small selection of places that work well for a day out from Sous le Noyer.
Our favourite walk
A short loop via Les Cros, Les Capitraux and Châtelut starts close to the gîtes. The hillside opens onto wide views of the countryside. Allow around 50 minutes, and take your time.
Puy de Dôme
A classic day out. Take the train up and walk back down for a lovely combination of views and walking.
Puy de Sancy & the volcanoes
For a bigger mountain day, head towards Puy Sancy and Mont-Dore. The Chaîne des Puys and Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne are also memorable.
Water & valleys
The Gorges de la Sioule are ideal for viewpoints and walking. Closer by, the Plan d’eau in Servant, Lac des Fades-Besserves, Lac Aydat and crater lake Tazenat make lovely outings.
